Folk crafts are more than just utensils; they embody the lifestyle, culture, and soul of both creators and users. However, as time passes and social values evolve, the precious wisdom of craftsmanship is gradually fading away. The 'Everyday Contem' Exhibition aims to align traditional handicrafts from Chiang Mai and northern Thailand with contemporary lifestyles. The exhibition explores case studies from countries like Japan, where traditional crafts have successfully integrated with the creative industry. It begins with Mingei, a movement and ideology dating back to the 1920s that celebrated the beauty inherent in everyday, ordinary, and functional objects. The showcase then traces the development of Mingu, representing everyday craft utensils from the Showa era, eventually leading to the creation of the world-famous brand, MUJI. In addition to showcasing objects and creative ideas from Japan, the exhibition returns to Chiang Mai's roots by presenting collaborative works of young homecoming creators with master craftsmen from various artistic disciplines. This showcase highlights the collaborative efforts of two generations of creators striving to revitalize traditional folk crafts with a contemporary touch.
