Starting from the north of Chiang Mai in San Kam Phaeng District, a key creative hub renowned for its handicrafts, highlights extend beyond crafty pieces. Home to Maiiam Contemporary Art Museum, the largest private art museum in northern Thailand, this district beckons visitors during CMDW 2023. Explore the vibrant world of dreams and imagination in Dreamworld #dreammantra, an exhibition by Mit Jai-Inn, a globally acclaimed Chiang Mai artist fusing local handicraft with contemporary visual arts. Additionally, Unveiling Objects exhibits items from Jean-Michel Beurdeley’s personal collection, featuring Chavalit Soemprungsuk’s chair-like sculptures, Singh Intrachooto’s futuristic furniture, and Thaiwijit Puengkasemsomboon’s stylized equipment, etc. This exhibition runs from December 2, 2023, to February 18, 2024.

Heading south from Chiang Mai, we reach Hang Dong District, a hub for local woodwork and a renowned antique market in the region. During CMDW 2023, Da Siam Antiques Chiang Mai presents the second Mango Art Festival, following last year’s success. This edition features selected pieces from Thai and foreign contemporary artists under the theme Treasure Discovered, emphasizing the fusion of modern perspectives with antiquities. Experience the festival from December 2 to 10, 2023, at Da Siam Antiques’ spacious compound, surrounded by lush gardens and antique houses.
Chiang Mai City
Back in the center of Chiang Mai city at Jing Jai Gallery, the exhibition Spirit Atlas is now open for art lovers to savor. Featuring works in various art forms, including paintings, sculptures, and video art, it captures the essence of our popular culture through the eyes of 7 contemporary up-and-coming artists like Nakrob Moonmanas, Yuree Kensaku, Santiphap Inkong-ngam, and more. Undoubtedly a must-see for art enthusiasts, and the good news is it will be on display for an extended period, lasting from November 10, 2023, all the way to February 11, 2024.
